I’m going to cheat a little this Thursday and take an opportunity to shamelessly promote one of our favorite causes. Last year, we participated for the first time in Matt’s Run. Matt’s Run is a 5k run/walk that was set up to raise money for students planning to attend Cal Poly that were good, hard-working students, but may not have had another means to obtain a scholarship. Below, we’ve got a few images of us and a few friends at the event.
Since the fund was set up in 2006, they have awarded just over 50 scholarships to students who exemplify the things that were important to Matt in his young adulthood. Criteria are as follows:
- Community Involvement
- Morally and Religiously Motivated
- Available to all majors
- Open to incoming freshman with 3.0 GPA or better
- Current Cal Poly Pomona students should have a college GPA 2.75 or better
Matt’s Run celebrates the life of a friend of mine, Matthew Meyers. Matt was a hard working, morally founded, honest young man. At the age of 20, while heading to class at Cal Poly Pomona, Matt was tragically struck by a car and killed. While his life was cut short, the impact it had has lasted. That’s why we are happy to support Matt’s Run, and plan to be running again this year. You can sign up by visiting MattsRun.org. We hope to see you there!
Oh, I almost forgot last years times! I finished in a modest 52.19 minutes. I’m hoping to beat that time this year! Let us know in the comments below if we’ll see you at this year’s run and if there are any other charity events that you’d like us to take a look at. Have an awesome Thursday!
